Frame Tents: the Versatile Workhorse
Frame tents are the West Coast style: a rigid frame of 2″ poles carrying a 16′ fabric top and sidewalls, with no interior poles, the whole floor plan is yours. They’re substantial structures that set up on nearly any surface (grass, pavement, driveway, rooftop), which makes them the go-to for backyard parties, weddings, corporate events, and most private celebrations. The honest limits: sidewall configurations are locked in at setup rather than client-adjustable, and while a frame tent handles normal weather well, it’s not the tier you choose for extreme conditions or multi-month installations.
High Peak / Marquee: the Elegant Silhouette
The high peak, also called marquee style, shares the frame tent’s general specs (same 2″ pole construction, same fabric system) and adds the dramatic peaked rooflines that photograph so beautifully at weddings and upscale events. It’s a style choice more than an engineering upgrade: you’re buying the silhouette. The trade-off is configurability, high peak tents are less modular than standard frames, so complex sidewall arrangements and unusual layouts favor the other rungs. For a garden wedding or an elegant reception where the roofline IS the look, this is the one.
Structure Tents: the Temporary Building
At the top of the ladder, structure tents are engineered to a different standard, rated for tropical-storm and light-hurricane conditions, and proven there: ACME structure tents have stood through serious Gulf Coast weather with no issues. The Clear-Top Question
Clear tops, transparent canopies that open the tent to sky, stars, and string lights, are a look nothing else matches. One Houston-honest caveat: clear tops trap heat, so they’re not recommended in hot months. They’re at their absolute best for winter events, when the greenhouse effect works for you and the season’s clear evenings do the decorating. If your date falls between October and April, ask about clear-top options; if it’s July, trust us and pick a solid top with great lighting instead.
Anchoring, Surfaces & Site Versatility
Every tier anchors to the surface it stands on: staked into grass (after utility and irrigation lines are located), or ballasted with concrete blocks or water barrels on pavement and rooftops. Wind exposure and site conditions size the anchoring plan, one of the things a site survey settles early.
