What Table Shapes And Sizes Should You Rent?
Most Houston events use two or three table types working together: a primary dining table, a cocktail or standing table for the reception hour, and utility tables for catering, gifts, registration and bars. Knowing what each size genuinely seats removes most of the back-and-forth.

How Much Room Does A Table Really Take?
This is where events go wrong. A 60-inch round is five feet across, but with chairs pulled out and room for a server to pass behind them it occupies a footprint closer to eleven feet in diameter. Plan about 120 square feet per 60-inch round with seating for a comfortable room, or roughly 100 if you are willing to be snug.
Add a dance floor, a stage, buffet lines with queuing space, and bars with room for a line to form. A 200-guest seated wedding with dancing and a buffet typically needs 4,000 to 5,000 square feet of usable floor — considerably more than most people estimate from looking at an empty room. How Many Tables Do You Need?
Start from guest count and service style, not from the venue’s floor plan. For plated or family-style dinner, divide your guaranteed count by eight to get 60-inch rounds, then add one spare table — there is always a spare table’s worth of people. For a buffet, plan one 8-foot serving line per roughly one hundred guests, doubled if you want everyone served inside twenty minutes.
Then add the tables everyone forgets: a gift and card table, a registration or welcome table, a cake or dessert table, two tables per bar, a DJ or AV table, and catering prep tables in the back of house, which caterers frequently assume are included and are not. On a 200-guest wedding that is typically six to eight tables beyond the dining plan.
For a cocktail-style reception, plan one highboy per eight to ten guests, clustered near bars and entrances rather than spread evenly — guests gather where the drinks and the doorways are, not where the floor plan says they should.
Rounds Or Long Tables?
This decision changes the character of an event more than any other rental choice, and it is worth making deliberately rather than defaulting to rounds because that is what the venue suggested.
- 60-inch rounds — every guest can see and talk to every other guest at their table. Best for weddings and galas where guests are seated with people they may not know. Most efficient for plated service.
- Long banquet or farm tables — more visually dramatic, better for photographs, and they read as communal. Guests can only really talk to their immediate neighbours and the two people opposite. Needs more floor width per guest.
- A mix — long head table with rounds for guests is the traditional compromise and still works.
- 72-inch rounds — fewer tables, fewer centerpieces, lower linen count. Conversation across a 72-inch round is a stretch, so better for dining than for talking.
When Do You Need Cocktail And Bar-Height Tables?
Standard-height tables invite guests to sit down and stay. Bar-height tables keep them upright, moving and talking.
That makes cocktail tables the right tool for receptions, networking hours, the gap before dinner and trade show hospitality — anywhere circulation matters more than long seated conversation. Which Bar Style Suits Your Event?
A bar is furniture that people photograph, so the style does more work than its size suggests.
Folding bars in white or black, and the 8′ white bar with a stainless steel top, are the clean, neutral choice — they disappear into whatever the room is doing. The serpentine bar with riser and skirt and the 6′ bar with risers and skirts add height and a finished front for formal service.
Then there are the bars that are the decor. The vintage ’57 Chevy car bar, the license plate bar and the 4′ boxwood bar are focal points — they suit themed events, brand activations and parties that want a talking point rather than a service counter.
The black rolling brandable steel bar splits the difference: neutral until you brand it, and it rolls, which matters if the bar has to move mid-event.
Where Should The Bar Go In Your Layout?
Bar placement is the strongest lever you have over how guests move, and it is usually decided last.
Wherever the bar is, that is where the crowd will be. One bar in a corner creates a queue and leaves the rest of the room dead. Two smaller bars at opposite ends halve the wait and spread people out. If you want guests near something — a stage, a display, a sponsor wall — a bar beside it works better than any sign.
Leave room behind the bar for staff and stock, not just in front of it for guests. And keep the bar off the route between the entrance and the seating, or the queue will cut the room in half.
Bars pair naturally with linens to skirt them and lighting to make them a focal point after dark.
Bars, Buffets And Back Of House
The tables that make an event run are the ones nobody photographs. Each bar needs two 6-foot banquet tables minimum — one as the bar front, one behind for ice, glassware and restock — and a serpentine section if you want a curved front rather than a straight run.
Buffets need more length than people expect. One 8-foot line serves roughly a hundred guests at a relaxed pace; if you want everyone through in twenty minutes, run two lines from both sides. Add a separate dessert or coffee table so it does not compete with the main line. And caterers need back-of-house prep tables, typically two to four 6-foot banquet tables out of sight, which are very frequently omitted from the order because everyone assumes the caterer brings them. Confirm this with your caterer in writing.
What Seating Goes With A Bar?
A bar without seating keeps guests standing. Sometimes that is the point; often it is not.

Linen sizing is arithmetic once you know the table. These are the pairings we work from:
- 60-inch round — 120-inch round linen for a full floor-length drop, or 108-inch for a shorter drop that shows the chair legs.
- 48-inch round — 108-inch round linen to the floor.
- 8-foot banquet — 90 x 156-inch for floor length.
- 6-foot banquet — 90 x 132-inch for floor length.
- Cocktail highboy — 120-inch round, or a fitted spandex cover.

What Should You Know About Delivery And Setup In Houston?
Table orders are delivered in a scheduled window, with setup available so tables are placed and squared to your floor plan before linens go on. Our crews return afterwards for breakdown and load-out. Because tables, chairs, linens, tents, flooring and staging all come from our own inventory on our own trucks, your venue coordinates one delivery rather than several.

Practical Notes That Save Money
A few things worth knowing before you finalize a table order.
- Bare farm tables save the linen line entirely — they are more expensive per table but you are not renting a 90 x 156 linen for each one.
- Cocktail highboys with fitted spandex covers are cheaper and far more weather-tolerant outdoors than a 120-inch round linen that will blow about all evening.
- Round tables nest and ship more efficiently than long tables, which matters on very large orders and on sites with a long carry.
- Ordering one spare dining table costs little and solves the recurring problem of a table’s worth of unexpected guests.
- Confirm the venue’s own inventory first — some Houston venues include a number of tables in the hire fee, and there is no sense renting what you already have.
